On 27 May 2016, a symposium on the building of intellect courts with information technology was held in Yanji, Jilin. It was jointly hosted by the People’s Court Press of the Supreme People’s Court and China Trial Journal. Present were over 60 representatives from the hosts and 29 courts across the country. Chen Xiangzhi, our vice president, attended and spoke at the symposium.

The discussions were centred on the building of intellect courts with information technology. Chen Xiangzhi gave a speech under the heading “Launching Informatization and Accelerating the Building of Intellect Courts”. He shared our achievements in informatization with other participants.

The participants also visited Yanji Court for field research, and were deeply impressed by its informatization, including online case filing, online court hearing, and online evidence exchange. They learned that Yanji Court had entertained 3,410 civil cases online in the one year following the start of this practice, accounting for 36.67% of all civil cases entertained over the same period. The court adopted an online platform accessible by plaintiffs, defendants and judges, enabling online public hearing and evidence exchange through video communication. They had also tried online auctions with the judicial sale services provided by Taobao.com. This had reduced the costs of auction and improved efficiency of case handling. Yanji Court’s experience and practices in informatization provided significant reference for other courts.
